Lighting is a very important part of any wedding setup. Whether you’re holding your celebration indoors, or outside in a marquee or tipi, lighting can really help to set the mood and make for some atmospheric surroundings. And, if your wedding is being held in an outdoor setting, it’s important to consider whether guests will need guiding around the venue when it gets dark. This is where clever and creative lighting solutions can come in handy.
When it comes to outdoor weddings, there are so many creative lighting solutions available. There’s sure to be one to suit your needs, budget, and theme. When hiring a tipi or marquee, the company you hire from is likely to include some lighting options for inside the space. These could include chandeliers, uplighters, pinspots, festoon or fairy lights, to name a few options. But, outdoor lighting is just as important. After all, a marquee or tipi wedding should be all about the outdoors! And, if you’re doing a DIY wedding with your own marquee or barn, you’ll have both indoor and outdoor lighting to think about – it can really add the finishing touches to your venue.
Here at Grizzly Bear Events, we have several options for wedding lighting hire. In this blog post, we will run through all of our different options to help you decide what sort of lighting is right for you. From lighting that is purely decorative, all the way through to lighting that serves a dual purpose as a safety measure too, we have the solutions that you need to help make your wedding that extra bit magical!
What are our wedding lighting hire options?
Festoon Lighting
Otherwise known as string light bulbs and frequently misspelt as festun, feston or festune, this is a popular lighting option despite the confusion! Consisting of a long cable with bayonet light fittings installed at regular intervals, this type of lighting looks great and is very versatile. Here at Grizzly Bear Events, we typically offer festoon with a 50cm spacing as we feel it gives the right level of light, aesthetic look and the all important ambience.
We often see couples use festoon lighting to adorn walkways, around camping areas, and in marquees as a decorative lighting option. They look amazing and really add a bit of character to both indoor and outdoor marquee wedding spaces.
Currently, we offer complimentary 1m high festoon shepherd hooks. These are ideal for marking out walkways or to separate different areas in a space. We can also recommend solutions for overhead shepherd hooks- simply get in touch to discuss your needs!
LED Lighting
All of our lighting is LED which has some brilliant benefits over conventional halogen or filament bulb kit.
Pros & Cons
- Very low power usage
- Can change colour on flood lights by a remote
- No bulbs to blow
- Low heat output
- Instant Light
- Not always dimmable
- Expensive initially to buy - but that's not a worry for clients!
Fairy Lights
Here we have another popular option and a more subtle alternative to festoon lighting. Fairy lights are a great solution for wedding lighting hire.
Otherwise known as twinkle lights, Christmas lights, string lights, or simply fairies for short, they are cheaper to rent than festoon lighting. But, they still provide a great effect.
They’re perfect for lighting long distances where cost is a key factor.
Fairy lights look perfect around lake edges, to line long walkways, and to decorate marquees and tipis. They work well as a visible safety barrier as well as pretty decoration.
One again, we ‘ll include 1m high shepherd hook for free if requested.
So, they’re a good multi-purpose lighting solution that’s popular for good reason!, twink
Battery Kit Lighting
Our equipment is all mains power which makes it ideal for long term installations, and avoids the negative which come with battery equipment.
Pros
- No cabling
- Don't rely on a mains supply once charged
Cons
- Have to remember to turn them on/off
- Often don't last beyond 6 hours
- More expensive to hire
- Heavy equipment due to battery weight
- Have to plug in to recharge daily
- Gradual battery degradation
LED Floodlights
Are you looking to incorporate some real ‘wow factor’ into your wedding? Have you considered LED floodlights as part of your wedding lighting hire?
They’re available as white lights, or upgrade to colour where you can use a remote to set the hue to suit your mood or theme.
These lights are mains powered so they’re super bright. And, there’s no need to worry about turning them on or off to maximise their battery life.
Also known as site lighting, floods, outdoor spotlights, and cob lights, they look great when used to light up trees and bushes, toilet areas, and back of house catering areas.
